Shivam Shah, a 19-year old from London, has been nominated for the pres­ti­gious British Asian Sports Awards for his ex­traor­di­nary achievements in bridge. This is the first time that a bridge player has been nominated for such an award. From the hundreds of applications received, 3 from each category were selected for the final stage.

Beijing, China; Sao Paulo, Brazil; and St.Petersburg, Russia have been selected by the WBF to host the major world bridge events in the coming years.

Beijing will be the venue of the World Bridge Games which is part of the World Mind Sports Games in 2008.

Sao Paulo, Brazil will be the venue of the 2009 World Team Cham­pion­ships, while St.Petersburg, Russia is to host the World Bridge Series in 2010.

Women players are to make new friends online and enjoy a new exciting bridge competition in a warm and inviting at­mos­phere.

This is thanks to a Women´s Bridge Festival, to be organized by the WBF and BBO in April 2008.

A total of four tournaments (Pairs and Individual) will be played each day, for a total of six days.

Following the meetings of the WBF Executive Council in Shanghai 2007, the World Bridge Federation has announced the new plan for the World Bridge Cham­pion­ships, to be put into effect in 2008.

The World Bridge Cham­pion­ships will operate on a four-year cycle.

The 2007 edition of the Laws of Duplicate Bridge is now available.

The new Laws come into effect from 1 January 2008, but NBOs have until 30 September 2008 to bring them into force.

All WBF events, whether world or zonal, will be conducted under the new Laws as from January 2008.

Nick Nickell, Dick Freeman, Bob Hamman, Paul Soloway, Jeff Meckstroth and Eric Rodwell have won the 2007 United States Bridge Championship and will be USA2 in the 2007 Bermuda Bowl in Shanghai this October. Last year's winners, George Jacobs, Ralph Katz, Steve Garner, Howard Weinstein, Michael Rosenberg and Zia Mahmood will be USA1 this fall. Good luck to both of our great representatives!



Runners up both this year and last are the Ekeblad team: Russ Ekeblad, Ron Rubin, Fred Gitelman &amp; Brad Moss, last year with Geoff Hampson and Eric Greco, this year with Chip Martel and Lew Stansby. Congratulations to them also.
