Samuel
Stayman of Palm Beach, Florida,
retired portfolio manager,
investor and bridge author.
Graduate of Dartmouth College and
Tuck Business College. In the
June 1945 issue of The
Bridge World
he described a convention,
invented by his then partner
George Rapee, which subsequently
became known as the Stayman
convention.
He made other contributions to
the theory of the game, including
Namyats
(Stayman spelled backwards).
He was a
contributing editor to the Official
Encyclopedia of Bridge.
